University of Michigan Faculty and Members of Treatment Innovation and Dissemination Lab: Lindsay Bornheimer, PhD (Assistant Professor), Anao Zhang, PhD (Transitional Post Doctoral Fellow) along with TIDL Founder and Co-Director, Joseph Himle, PhD (Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Howard V. Brabson Collegiate Professor), recently published a peer-reviewed article focusing on the relationships between depression, hallucinations, delusions, and suicidal ideation.

The study used Collaborative Psychiatric Epidemiology Surveys including a large general population-based sample of households in the US from 2001 to 2003. Examined with Structural Equation Modeling, results indicate that having hallucinations and delusions independently relate to an increased likelihood of experiencing suicidal ideation. Further, results show that having the combination of both hallucinations and delusions puts one most at risk for experiencing suicidal ideation, specifically among those who experienced depression in their lifetime.
